November 9 Speaker on Social Prescribing

Did you know that 80 percent of health is socially determined? So says Dr. Adam Hoverman, a family physician at the Wellington Clinic in Nanaimo, and the speaker at the November 9th lecture in Mid Island Elder College’s Saturday Speaker Series. “At a time when our healthcare system is in crisis,” he says, “‘social prescribing’ may be exactly the cure we need.”

To that end, we’ll be handing out Elder College prescription pads to attendees to give to their doctors and to mature adults. “It’s a way of reinforcing the fact that lifelong learning helps people not only rejuvenate their brains but also stay socially connected. This positively impacts both their own health and the healthcare system,” says Robin Fisher, President of Mid Island Elder College.

Dr. Hoverman’s talk will take place at the Nanoose Place Community Centre, 2925 NW Bay Road, Nanoose Bay, from 10 am to 12 noon. The cost is $10 at the door, or you can register online at eldercollege.org/membership-and-courses. Plan to join us for insights, coffee, and conversation!
