MIEC Welcomes B.C. Seniors Advocate Dan Levitt this Saturday
The idea of aging in place should, for seniors in British Columbia, be a reality not a myth, says Dan Levitt, the B.C. Seniors Advocate.
Levitt will give a presentation on current issues for B.C. seniors at Nanoose Place on Saturday, Sept. 20, from 10 a.m. to noon. His presentation opens MIEC’s Fall Saturday Speakers Series on the theme of healthy aging.
The Office of the Seniors Advocate is an independent office of the B.C. provincial government, which acts in the interest of seniors and their caregivers. The office monitors and analyzes seniors’ services and makes recommendations to government and service providers to address systemic issues in five areas: health care; housing; income support; community support; and transportation.
“There is a rebirth that has to happen in long-term care,” said Levitt, “where we re-think and re-imagine what aging looks like. People want to age in place. Anyone who needs care should be able to find that care in the community in which they live. They shouldn't have to leave the town where they are living or leave their spouse."
Admission to the talk is $10, payable at the door (or, for members, through the Amilia platform).
