AGM 2025
The Mid Vancouver Island Elder College Society held its Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 28 May. President and Board Chair Robin Fisher gave a report our year of progress including remarkable growth in the number of courses offered and two successful Saturday Speakers Series, an increase in membership to over 900, the establishment of a fee remission program for those in financial difficulty, and the expansion of course delivery to Qualicum Beach and Duncan. We have spread the word that Elder College is alive and well in this region. Our success has been facilitated by the appointment of Nicole Ferguson, who is doing great work as Program Coordinator.
Huge thanks are due to all who have contributed to this successful year: Board members, instructors, learners, volunteers, MIEC members and donors. The Treasurers’ report indicated that we have sufficient resources to carry us into the immediate future but need to plan for longer term sustainability. We will continue to seek donations and grants and this summer a planned, legacy giving program will be launched. The meeting approved the continuation of the existing membership fee of $25 for the next year to May 2026.
Then came the election of society officers and Board members. The following were elected: Robin Fisher (President), John Black (Vice-President), Charles Shier (Treasurer), John Blain (Secretary) and Directors Jacky Crawford, Ann-Marie Lafleur, Steve Lane, Lisa Leger, Pamela Petrie, Joyce Smith, Sharon Speevak and Gloria Wells.
