Homelessness: A Way Forward

Homelessness is a growing existential crisis in Canada and Vancouver Island. Yet, many countries around the world have adopted and implemented a number of initiatives that address homelessness with caring and supportive strategies. This presentation will explore homelessness to examine its root causes and offer solutions and a way forward.

Presenter: Dave Witty has combined academia and practice much of his career. Since the early ‘70s, Dave has practiced community planning and urban design across Western Canada and internationally. He is the former Provost and Vice-President Academic Vancouver Island University; Dean, Faculty of Architecture, University of Manitoba; and has received widespread recognition and honours for his work. He says homelessness is a growing existential crisis in Canada and Vancouver Island; yet, many countries around the world have adopted and implemented a number of initiatives that address homelessness with caring and supportive strategies. His presentation will explore homelessness to examine its root causes and offer solutions and a way forward.
