The Alien in the Machine: AI Risks and Ethics

On April 11, In our third lecture on Artificial Intelligence, Dr. Joanna Hesketh will address the growing list of ethical considerations raised by this emerging technology, including:

• global reliance on the surveillance economy
• media manipulation for personal, political and criminal gain, including a steep rise in hate, harassment and fraud
• social and cultural erasure, coined ‘Digital Colonialism’, and access inequity
• environmental catastrophizing

Who is responsible for the impact of such developments? What do we do about them, if anything? How does one step into the epic flood of technological evolution and navigate the waters safely?

Join Dr Hesketh on Saturday April 11, at 10:00 am, at Nanoose Place Community Centre, 2925 Northwest Bay Road, to sift fact from fiction as we explore the ethics of the risks, benefits and opportunities of Artificial Intelligence in our time. Register through Amilia or pay $10 cash at the door.
